This Lot18mm Taper to 16mmBlackMOD. DEP. TROPIC. SWISS MADE.Ref.22503"ACIER" Tang BuckleFrom the era of the "Tool Watch"These are Genuine 60s Vintage,So the Year is 1960(something) Divers Watches are Big Sports watches in general are BIG but particularly the divers. This is the era of the Seamasters, the master compressors & the Submariners! the LIP nautic Skis and The Submariner TudorLeather Straps were no longer able to keep up with the pressures and the strains of the depth and prolonged exposure to seawaterUp pops the "TROPIC" strap and offers a solution a 100% Seawater Pressure & Salt resistant strap Made of Rubber!Needles to say this pretty much revolutionised the divers watch era and a great deal of companies jumped aboardFrom GP To Seiko (the 62mas was issued on an "in house" SEIKO manufactured "Tropic" type strap.) Rolex and LIP (Fifty Fathoms)as well a HUGE selection of French Divers. Some Military Connections?Well yes but only one backed up with solid evidence The Submariner Tudor was delivery to the French Navy on Tropic strapThis StrapA Quality GENUINE Vintage Tropic Rubber Divers Band 18mm Slight Curved End "Basket Weave" Or "Kevlar" Grain Watch strapThe nature of these straps (although 18mm stated) does mean that they do "Squish" rather comfortably into 17m lug spacings so both 18mm 17mm lug spacing is in our opinion pretty valid for this particular strapTHESE ARE GENUINEVintage Rubber Divers Bands so you get that rubber vanilla smell that you do NOT get with modern reproduction silicon/rubber blends. (Produced until 1980 when Hublot Patented the first Natural Rubber that later came to become the norm)A watch Strap that looked as good with a suit and tie as it did on the deck of a sailboat. If you find metal bracelets uncomfortable and leather straps unsuitable anywhere near water,
More durable than conventional leather straps and doesn’t look as inherently sporty as a watch on a metal bracelet. Besides being perfectly suitable for water sports, rubber has the advantage of being washable without altering and decomposing over time; one of the shortcomings of traditional leather straps.
